Two customers, one Tuesday. One of them is about to become a bad review — and it started with a booking taken while you were under a sink.

Double-booking is rarely carelessness. It is what happens when bookings arrive through five channels — a phone call, a text, a WhatsApp, a shout across a driveway, a note on the back of a receipt — and the diary lives in your head.
The fix is unglamorous: every booking, from every channel, goes into the same place immediately. Not later. The gap between “I’ll put that in tonight” and actually putting it in is where every double-booking is born. If a booking arrives while your hands are full, a voice note is faster than remembering.
An hour’s work the other side of the county is not an hour in your diary. Plenty of clashes are not really clashes — they are two jobs that would fit if they were next door and cannot possibly fit thirty miles apart. Block the realistic time, including getting there.
A diary packed end to end has no capacity to absorb the job that overruns, and jobs overrun. One genuinely free slot a week is not lost money, it is the thing that stops one bad morning cascading into three annoyed customers.
A system that simply says “heads up, you have also got something at 3:30 that day” at the moment you book prevents the problem entirely, because you find out while the customer is still on the phone.
